Minister of Transportation announces roadshow to register 15,000 volunteers for terminal trials, in line with Bahrain leadership’s directives
His Excellency, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) Chairman, Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed announced the launch of a Kingdom-wide roadshow aimed at registering 15,000 public volunteers to participate in advanced trials for Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) new terminal. The move is in line with directives to open the new Passenger Terminal Building in the first quarter of 2020, which were issued by Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa during Government Forum 2019. The Operations Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) trials are crucial to ensure the successful launch of the eagerly anticipated new facility, which will support the ongoing development of the Kingdom’s aviation sector, in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
The launch event took place at Seef Mall in the Seef District, in the presence of representatives from BAC, Gulf Air, Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), and members of the general public. The month-long ORAT roadshow runs from 24 October to 24 November, 2019.
HE the Minister stressed the importance of the trials, stating: “The success of the Airport Modernisation Programme hinges on the ORAT programme, which is designed to ensure a smooth transfer to the new facility and the successful launch of daily operations. The trials will put the new terminal’s systems, processes, and procedures to the test, helping to identify areas for improvement with staff training or equipment ahead of the launch. Each successfully executed trial brings us a step closer to launching an airport that the entire country can be proud of.”
HE the Minister added: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in one of the biggest national development projects in the Kingdom’s history. All Bahrain residents and nationals are welcome to sign up for the trials, which promise to be a memorable experience. Working together, we will surely succeed in achieving this ambitious national goal to complete the Airport Modernisation Programme, ensuring that the new terminal delivers a world-class travel experience that puts Bahrain’s aviation sector on the global map.”
In line with the ORAT roadshow, dedicated stands featuring fun activities and entertainment will be set up at key locations around the island, including Bahrain International Airport, malls, and universities. BAC team members will be on hand to help people register and explain more about the ORAT programme, air traffic control, the Airport Modernisation Programme (AMP), and the new terminal.
